Bush’s Final "State of Union" Speech
In his final state of union?speech Monday night, President Bush called for quick passage of his tax rebate package. He said: "Our economy is undergoing a period of uncertainty; at the kitchen tables across the country, there is concern about our economic future."

Bush also asked the American people to have patience on the Iraq war. He made the case that his troop buildup had "achieved results few of us could have imagined just one year ago."

Seven years have passed since George Bush arrived in Washington from Texas with the promise to be a “uniter and not a divider.” But today the nation is facing an unpopular war while also dealing with a serious downturn in the economy.

Bush also called for his signature on the education bill, “No Child Left Behind.” He suggested that the GI education bill benefit could be transferred to spouses and children of military personnel.

These are the final days of the Bush administration. His legacy will depend on what he has done for the Nation.
