War Cost Us Trillions |
|
|
|
|
Nobel
prize-winning economist, Joseph Stiglitz, in his new book, "The
Trillion Dollar War," projects that the Iraq and Afghan wars,
including long-term U.S. military occupation of those countries,
will cost the U.S. between $1.7 trillion and 2.7 trillion--or
more--by 2017.
The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office has done its own
cost projections and has come in with a lower forecast, but
still very high, of between?$1.2 to $1.7 trillion dollars.
In their January 30th report to Congress, the GAO (Government
Accounting Office) observed that the U.S. will be committing
"significant" future resource to the wars at the same time the
country is facing ongoing, long-range fiscal challenges.
In this presidential election, the economic issue will be number
one for the voters of America.
This is the time we all really need to reconsider the whole
situation in the area of economic responsibility and find
solutions to our economic problems.
