Rockets Blow Past Laker and Hit
22-Win Streak |

With their
104-92 win over the Los Angeles Lakers, the Houston Rockets
confidently took sole possession of first place in the Western
Conference and continued to add to the second-longest winning
streak in NBA history.
With Alston's scoring of 31 points, to Battier's blanketing Kobe
Bryant down the stretch, the Rockets blew past the Los Angeles
Lakers at Toyota Center Sunday and posted their 22nd consecutive
win.
Everything the Rockets did Sunday afternoon began with Shane
Battier and his solid defensive effort against Kobe Bryant. When
Bryant moved, Battier moved. He was clearly Battier's shadow
throughout the whole game.
"I tried to play every possession the same way," Battier said.
Translate that as “tough-as-nails” defense.
Battier chased Bryant through screens, pursued him on the
perimeter and refused to back down in the post. An elbow in the
back one minute, a hand in the face the next. Bryant was
contained and restrained all night long.
The Rockets won because they were strong and perfect on both
defensive and offense. As McGrady said, "We are doing this
without a single all star. We are bringing it on with the
defense and that's every single night."
The “on-fire” Rockets will face the Boston Celtics Tuesday in
Toyota Center. |
