China Will Let Foreign Media
Visit Lhasa |
|
|
|
|
The Chinese
parliament has approved Wen Jiabao for another five-year term as
Chinese premier. In a news conference, Wen condemned the Dalai
Lama’s role in the recent Lhasa
riots and accused him of organizing and masterminding the
protests.
On March 14, the riots that broke out in Lhasa brought beatings,
smashing of property, looting and arson and left at least ten
people dead. The riots have seriously disrupted the order of the
city.
Wen also denied that the Chinese government is engaged in
so-called "cultural genocide," and has branded these words as
nothing but lies.
Wen said the door of dialogue still remains open to the Dalai
Lama as long as he gives up his position for Tibet independence.
Wen also said that China is considering organizing groups of
foreign media to visit Lhasa to allow them see what has happened
on the ground there.
In Lhasa, the situation is basically returning to normal.
