IOC Reaffirms the Right of Free Speech in 2008 Olympic Games
The IOC expressed relief that the Olympic torch relay passed off without major incident in San Francisco and reaffirmed the right of free speech for athletes at the Beijing Olympics.

In the meantime, IOC's president, Jacques Rogge, declared that the rest of the international torch relay would not be cut short or cancelled.

The San Francisco parade route was changed and shortened to prevent disruption by crowds of protesters. They are criticizing China's policies on Tibet and Darfur and have turned the Beijing Games into one of the most contentious events in recent history, and as such, presents the IOC with one of its toughest tests.

As we know, the history of the Olympic Games are fraught by many challenges, usually based on the politics. But we have full confidence that China will host a very success Games in Beijing.
