We Must Cherish Our Sacred Right to Vote
By Wea H. Lee

As America’s midterm elections approach, early voting has begun in Texas. We urge every eligible voter to cherish this fundamental civic right and cast a ballot with care, reason, and a sense of responsibility.

At a time when social divisions cause concern and household expenses and economic uncertainty weigh on families, we must ask ourselves: What kind of public services do we expect? What kind of society do we want for the next generation? And whom do we trust to serve the public?

A ballot may be small, but it carries a family’s hopes for the future. From neighborhood safety and education to jobs, health care, and infrastructure, the decisions made through elections touch our everyday lives.

The strength of democracy lies in allowing people of different backgrounds and beliefs to express their choices peacefully. We may support different candidates and hold different political views, but respect for one another, commitment to facts, and peaceful participation should remain common ground.

Before voting, take time to examine each candidate’s proposals, experience, and record of public service. Consider whether their promises are practical and achievable. Do not allow rumors to replace facts or passing emotions to take the place of thoughtful judgment.

Please also check your voter registration status, polling locations, voting hours, and identification requirements with your local election office. Make a plan so that your voice can be heard.

The vote in our hands is both a right and a responsibility. May every voter make an informed choice guided by conscience and sound judgment—and may we listen to one another with the respect that a healthy democracy requires.
