美參議院領袖麥康奈辭職

歷史上任職最長的共和黨領袖麥康奈咋日宣佈計劃年底辭職。 他在參議院發表之聲明中回顧他在一九八五年進入參議院後滿懐敬畏之心，逐漸從後排走到前排，成為參院領袖之人生過程。 他說：“生活中最被低估之天賦之一，就是知道什麼時候該走向生活中下一個篇 章。” 

麥康奈表示他的辭職並非健康因素， 但他曾經兩次在公開場合中恍神， 令人擔憂他的健康狀況 ，他在致詞時語帶哽咽， 語畢時兩黨議員都起立鼓掌致敬。

自20 20年起 ，麥康奈和前總統川普之關係不和， 因而導至其妻趙小蘭也辭去部長職務。 他一直受到支持川普保守派的壓力， 假如今年川普再度被共和黨提名參選總統， 對麥康奈而言不如早些求去。 

對美國參議院今後由何人出任領袖， 將是政壇上重大之影響和改變。 一般認為， 過去二十年來 ，他是穩定參院運作之重要力量。

Mitch McConnell Will Step Down   

As Senate Republican Leader

Senator Republican leader Mitch McConnell announced that he        will step down from his role as Republican leader at the end of his term. He will give up his position following the November election.

The 82-year-old senator said that,      “Believe me, I know the politics    within my party at this particular time. I have many faults and misunderstanding politics is one 

one of them.”

He suffered a fall last year and experienced some medical episodes when he momentarily froze in front of the media. 

The senator also said that he believes more strongly than ever 

that America’s global leadership is essential to preserving that shining 'City on a Hill' that Ronald Reagan mentioned many times. 

President Biden said that, " I’ve trusted him and we have a great relationship. We fight like hell, but he has never ever misrepresented my views." 

The president choked up when he delivered his speech as all members of both parties stood up and applauded. 

It is generally believed that McConnell has been a very important force in the U.S. Senate over the past twenty years.
