Southern News Group And Houston City College Join Hands
Launching A New Chapter In AI Education
Houston, Texas — In an era where artificial intelligence is transforming every corner of society, education is no longer just about imparting knowledge—it is about inspiring hearts and igniting the imaginations of the future. Today, Southern News Group and Houston City College formally inaugurated their new partnership at the Southern Media Center, launching a groundbreaking AI and Computer Science course that bridges technology, creativity, and community.
Under the bright lights of the media center, students, professors, and community leaders gathered to witness this historic beginning. As AI technology continues to redefine how we tell stories, communicate, and connect, this collaboration represents a powerful convergence of media innovation and academic excellence. Together, the two institutions will nurture a new generation of thinkers who can use technology not only with skill, but with vision and compassion.
The program will cover a wide range of topics—including the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, data analysis, computer programming, and media applications of AI. Through a combination of hands-on practice and conceptual study, students will not only learn how to use AI tools, but also how to understand the human stories behind the algorithms: how technology can serve society and enhance human life.
Chairman Wea Lee of Southern News Group delivered an inspiring address at the ceremony:
“Education is the root of hope, and technology is the wing of the future. By combining the influence of media with the power of education, we hope to give young people the opportunity to rise with the wave of AI and become the innovators who shape tomorrow.”
His words resonated deeply throughout the hall, reminding everyone that technology without humanity is incomplete—and that media and education must work hand-in-hand to shape a wiser, kinder world.
President of SW Houston City College, Dr. Webster, echoed this vision, emphasizing that AI education is not merely about technical skills, but about cultivating new ways of thinking.
“We want our students to learn responsibility and creativity—to find the warmth and light of humanity within the digital age.”
After the opening ceremony, representatives toured the newly established AI laboratory and media innovation studio, symbolizing the start of a new era where learning meets real-world creation. The partnership will also include guest lectures, innovation challenges, and internship opportunities to give students a true taste of the power and promise of artificial intelligence.
Today’s event marks not just the beginning of a course of study, but the beginning of a dream. When education meets technology, when media joins hands with academia, a brighter future begins to unfold—right here at the Southern Media Center.
