Many People Are Betting Against America

Today, many people around the world are pessimistic about America.

Some say the U.S. economy is declining. Some point to deep political and social divisions. Others argue that America’s influence in the world is no longer what it once was. High living costs, immigration challenges, political conflict, and growing international competition have caused many people to question America’s future.

But after living in America for decades, I see another side of this country.

America’s greatest strength has never been that it has no problems. Its strength is its ability to confront problems, correct mistakes, and begin again—even after serious crises.

America continues to attract talented people from around the world. Scientists, entrepreneurs, students, and immigrants still come here in search of opportunity. From artificial intelligence and medical technology to energy, aerospace, finance, and advanced manufacturing, America remains a global leader in many important fields.

More importantly, America still has a powerful spirit of entrepreneurship.

An ordinary person who is willing to work hard can start with very little, build a business, create a career, and change the future of an entire family. That is one reason the American Dream continues to inspire people around the world.

Of course, America is not perfect.

The country faces real challenges. We need better education, more effective government, safer communities, and greater understanding and cooperation among people of different backgrounds.

It is easy to criticize America. The more important question is whether we are willing to work together to make it better.

I have always believed that America’s true strength is not found only on Wall Street, in Silicon Valley, or in Washington. It lives in every person who is willing to work, create, take risks, and accept responsibility.

Many people are betting against America.

I still choose to believe in America.

I have seen with my own eyes how an immigrant arriving with very little money can, step by step, build a life and a future in this country.

As long as America continues to give hardworking people an opportunity—and as long as we continue to believe in education, innovation, freedom, and determination—America will not easily decline.

America’s greatest hope is not simply how powerful it is today. It is its remarkable ability to begin again.
