THE EXTREME HEAT IS GRADUALLY FADING
Houston’s long and scorching summer is slowly approaching its end. Although daytime temperatures remain high—sometimes climbing into the upper 90s—we can already feel a slight coolness during the early mornings and evenings. Increasing cloud cover and occasional afternoon showers are also bringing brief relief to our sunbaked city.
This summer’s extreme heat has increased household electricity costs and created serious challenges for senior citizens, outdoor workers, and agricultural producers. The growing frequency of extreme weather reminds us of the importance of conserving energy, expanding urban green spaces, and caring for vulnerable members of our community.
The intense heat may be gradually fading, but autumn has not fully arrived. We should continue drinking plenty of water, avoiding prolonged exposure to the sun, and remaining alert to afternoon thunderstorms and possible street flooding.
Every change of season brings renewed hope. As the summer heat slowly retreats, we look forward to a cooler, safer, and more vibrant autumn.
