  好友根薩勒出任聯邦移民局長

拜登總統日前宣佈提名哈里斯郡警長愛德武根薩勒出任聯邦移民局局長，他將成為美國國家安全部十一位重量級官員之一。

他自二O一六年當選警長一職以來，他曾公開批判前總統川普之移民政策，他反對立即逮捕非法移民之聯邦命令及大批駆逐非法進入美國的移民，他認為這些非法居民並不代表對美國安全的重大威脅。

目前他手下共有五千名警員，如果此項任命通過，他將管理二萬名員工及八十億之财政預算。

我們認識根薩勒警長已超過二十年了，他常提起全家從墨西哥移民美國的故事，由于家境貧窮, 母親支撐家務，他勤奮好學擠進大學，日後選上市議員直到副市長，由于他對選民之親善，常常走進亞裔社區，我們支持他選上了警長。

雖然他日理萬機，也經常會來電問候，我主政的休斯敦國際區，一直受到他的支持，並遣派多名屬下參加我們的治安工作。

我們在此祝福他更上一層樓，更希望在他領導之下，尽快改善移民局处理案件及堆集如山的申请案。

國家得此楝才，是人民之福也。

Congratulations Ed

Our dear friend Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales has been nominated by President Biden to be Director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He was included on a list of 11 nominations for key national security positions.

Gonzales was elected in 2016 as Sheriff of Harris County, one of the largest counties in Texas and home to Houston. He has criticized the immigration policy of former President Trump and withdrew Harris County from a federal partnership dating to 2008 that authorized sheriff’s deputies to enforce immigration law. When he was a sergeant in the Houston Police Department, he also condemned Trump’s commitment to mass deportation.

We are here to congratulate Ed on becoming the top man in immigration and customs enforcement. We are hoping he will try his best to address all the backlog of immigration cases which are related to our community.

Ed is from an immigrant family from Mexico. Even though he is from a poor family, because of his hard work he has become an outstanding law enforcement officer and city councilman.

Ed has been so close to our community and often showed up at many of our events. His warm heart has built up our trust and support.

In 2016 he was elected as Harris County Sheriff and he still visited us all the time.

We are also very glad our nation will have such an outstanding public servant. Ed, we all are going to support you in the future.
