慶賀白衣天使之節日

今天是美國護士日，我們大家來感謝和慶祝這個極有意義的日子，祝願全國的白衣天使永遠快樂。

尤其是在過去一年多來，世界新冠病毒之侵襲， 護士們守在病疫之最前缐 ，多半都成為了盡忠職守的戰士。

慶祝護士節已經是我們全國從五月六日起一週之活動，我們希望全體民眾要把護士照顧我們的故事廣為流傳，當你再次到醫院去門診時，要特別向在場的白衣天使表示感謝。

早在一九五三年時在美國衛福部服務的蘇德蘭女士向艾森豪總統寫信，建議總統頒佈國立之謢士日，經白宮同意後 ，自一九五四年開始 ，全國民眾每年都展開一周的慶祝活動。

近年來 ，全世界各地都出現了護理人員短缺之現象， 尤其是在美國， 許多學生都不願讀護理系，所以近年來大批來自亞洲尤其是菲律賓護士到了美國任職， 但是仍然無法解決問題。

我的母校拉馬州立大學有一所全國知名的護理学院並且設有網上教學，招收全世界有意到美國來考護士執照的國際學生。

我也設想未來在非洲幾內亞設立一所護士專業學院，專門培養可以到美國來工作的學生們，應該是项可行而實際之計劃。

全世界的護士們，你們實在太了不起，尤其此次全球遭到之災難， 更顯示你們大公無私犧牲奉獻之精神。

We Are Celebrating National Nurses Day

Today is National Nurses Day. On this day we all raise awareness of the contributions of all nurses and the vital role nurses play in our society.

National Nurses Week begins on May 6th and ends on May 12^th, which also is the birthday of Florence Nightingale. She was was the founder of modern nursing. She became well-known while taking care of the wounded soldiers during the Crimean War. She is called, “The Lady With The Lamp.”

Today, especially in our pandemic period, we need to recognize nurses everywhere and celebrate their commitment and dedication to their patients. Tell everyone about the service we have received from the nurses. When we visit a hospital or a clinic, again we need to say a special thanks again to all the nurses.

In 1953, Dorothy Sutherland, an employee of the United States Department of Health, sent a letter to President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposing a National Nurses Day. In 1974, President Richard Nixon proclaimed a National Nurses Week.

Today the world is experiencing a shortage of nurses, including us here in America. In recent years, many Asian nurses came to America especially from The Philippines. Their hard work really helped us solve the shortage problem.

I am planning to suggest the opening of a nursing school in West Africa close to Guinea. In the future we need to train more young people in nursing. When they have finished their studies, they can help the nursing shortage around the world.
