Trump Might Be In A Legal Challenge

Former President Trump is facing a legal challenge.

After 10 months the House select committee on the investigation into the January 6 insurrection is about half of the way done. They are trying to prove that former President Trump violated several federal laws in the events leading up to the insurrection and its aftermath.

The committee stated that it has evidence to show that Trump and his campaign staff carried out an illegal and unconstitutional attempt to obstruct Congress’s election process of certifying Joe Biden’s victory and engaged in a criminal conspiracy to defraud the United States.

The committee does not have the authority to prosecute the former president, but it can make criminal reference to the Justice Department to build the case against him. But some legal specialists said the former president may have a strong legal defense.

The House select committee also indicated that Trump violated other laws by allegedly trying to obstruct and influence an official proceeding of the United States. Prosecutors could make a case that he broke this law by pressuring his then-Vice President Mike Pence to stop Congress’s election certification process by telling his followers that the election was “criminal” and to march on the Capitol where the certification process was about to start.

Since the January 6 insurrection, the government has apprehended more than 800 individuals in connection with the attack on the Capitol. More than 280 of them have been charged with corruptly obstructing and influencing an official proceeding.

Former Attorney General William Barr testified to the committee that Trump had become “detached from reality,” referring to Trump’s belief that there was voter fraud despite his advisors telling him there was no fraud.

This political drama really is telling us how politics work in Washington, D.C.

Midterm elections are coming up. The two parties will be on the stage again to fight for victory. We claim to be a democratic country and the leader of the free world. We need to show the world how we handle our own elections.
