走進主流政治之一大步

我們非常興奮和榮幸，上週六上午有六位休斯敦市要競選下任市長的候選人走進了美南新聞總部大樓， 參加了由德州多元族裔聯盟和美南新聞合辦的政見辯論和发表會， 近百位各族裔社區領袖及媒體人士參加。 

這項政見辯論會代表了非常重大之意義 ，也是如此众多之市長候選人集聚在美南電視環球劇場， 和近百位華亞裔及主流精英面對面討論休斯敦市政之未來。

近一年來， 居住在德州之華裔面諸多挑戰， 其中包括議會所提出之第147案將全面禁止華人購買房地產及惡化之治安， 我們在和非裔、拉丁裔華、亞裔協商之下，過去一年來每週六上午都在美南新聞集會， 廣邀各界代表終於決定成立多族裔文化大聯盟， 共同面對未來之各項困難挑戰。

今天我們已經向這些將來會出任市長之候選人傳達非常明確之建議，其中最重要的是整治治安， 反對歧視及加強本市基礎建設等。

疫情帶來嚴重影響， 我們呼籲大家要團結一致，支持參與各項政治活動， 尤其是未來之市長主宰市政和我們关系非常密切。 

今天他們已經走進我們的社區 ，代表了對華亞裔之重視， 更是我們參政重要的一步。

A Big Step Into Mainstream Politics

We are very excited and honored that six Mayoral candidates entered our STV studio and participated in the Houston Mayoral Forum. Close to one hundred community leaders and news media representatives participated. This important event was sponsored by the Texas Multicultural Advocacy Alliance and Southern News Group. 

This political forum and debate represented a very important significance to our community and many of the Mayoral candidates gathered at our STV studio to discuss the future of our city. 

In recent years there have been many challenges  for the Chinese Asian community including Bill 147 to prohibit Chinese citizens from buying real estate in Texas. Another critical matter is the worsening of the public safety issue. With the help of the African and Latino community leaders, we finally decided to form the Texas Multicultural Advocacy Alliance group to face the difficulties and challenges we all face now and into the future. 

During the Mayoral Forum, we conveyed a very clear message to the candidates that one of them will be the Mayor of our city who will face already existing issues. And the most important of these issues include the immediate need rectify the ongoing public safety issue, oppose discrimination and strengthen the city’s infrastructure.

The epidemic has had a serious impact our community. We here and the whole country are facing big problems. We urge everyone to regularly participate in local and national politics to help us and help our nation as well.
