休斯敦市長走馬上任

在二千餘位市民之欢呼聲中， 徳州休斯敦市長惠特邁昨天上午正式就任。 他在就職演說中表示要成立一個為全市市民服務之政府， 誓言要為全體市民之福利共同努力。

市長表示， 改善治安是他首要任務。 如果沒有良好之環境， 其他市政項目將是無法推進， 諸如市內基礎設施、流浪漢問題、 市政預算皆是他立即要處理之重大市政項目。

在莊嚴之國歌聲中， 包括主計長及十多位市議員先後宣誓就職， 為休斯敦之市新政開啟了新的一頁。

這個全美第四大城市， 目前被稱為全美最大多元族裔之大城， 華亞裔人口近百分之七， 並且有不斷增加之趨勢。

對新巿長而言，在他施政之藍圖中， 將包括擴大在城市外交之交流及促進世界各地對休斯敦之投資， 帶動更多之經濟繁榮， 廣泛加強觀光活動。

The Mayor Of Houston Takes Office

Over the cheers of more than 2,000 citizens, John Whitmire, the new mayor of Houston, Texas,  officially took office yesterday morning. In his inaugural speech, he said that he would establish a government that will serve all the people in the city and vowed to work together for the welfare of all citizens.

The mayor said that improving public safety is his top priority saying that, “Without a safe environment, all other municipal projects will not be able to advance, including urban infrastructure, the city budget and the homeless issues.”

Houston, the fourth largest city in the nation, is currently known as having the largest ethnic population in the United States with a record Asian population of nearly 7% currently living in the city today.

We really want to suggest that the city should expand its global relationships around the world to promote trade and cultural ties and attract more investors to come to the city in order to drive more economic prosperity and widely strengthen the city’s tourism activities.
