休斯敦市府大改組

就任市長過百日的惠特曼今天撤銷公共建設局長職務，由市府工程師史密斯暫代，這是新任市長對市府最大單位進行之重大改革。

公共建設局有超過四千二百位員工，每年有三千億之預算，其管轄全市地上及地下水道、自來水厰及發放建築执照及執行市政法令之龎大工作。

近年來，市府自來水發票失誤及市民要求發放建築執照一直是大家最诟病之地方，等待建築執照往往需要一年以上之申請時間，這些不便民之地方是惠特曼市長最優先之施政項目。

身為市井小民，公共工程是我們最貼身和關心的事，我們舉雙手來擁護市長之德政。

Major Restructuring

Houston Mayor Whitmire has replaced Public Works Director Carol Haddock with an interim city engineer, Richard Smith.This marks a significant reform by the new mayor on a major department of the city government.
The Public Works Department employs over 4,200 staff members with a three-$billion-dollar budget. It oversees the city’s above-ground and underground waterways including the city's water supply and it also issues the building permits.
Over the past several years, the city has faced the water bills problem and the late issuing of building permits. These challenges have been major concerns for the residents of the city. The waiting time for the issuing of building permits is sometimes over one year. This issue is a top priority for the new mayor.

As common folks, public works projects are what we are most concerned about and close to our heart.

We wholeheartedly support the mayor’s efforts to improve these areas for the benefit of the citizens.
