是那位日夜辛勤打拼、只為孩子念書的餐館老闆;
是那個為爺爺奶奶翻譯社區消息的年輕學子;
Today is not just a date—it is a declaration.
June 16, 1979.On this day, forty-six years ago, Southern News Group was born—not in a towering newsroom or marble hall, but in the hands of immigrants who dared to dream. Armed with little more than ink, heart, and unwavering conviction, they launched a newspaper that would become a voice for the voiceless.
This was not just a publication—it was a revolution.
A revolution in a foreign land, by a people who refused to remain silent.
A revolution that said: We are here. We belong. We will be heard.
For 46 years, through every storm and every triumph, Southern News has stood tall.
We stood in grief, reporting through national tragedies.
We stood in resilience, when hurricanes tore through our cities.
We stood in defiance, when Asian Americans were targeted and silenced.
And through it all, we never stopped telling the truth.
We never stopped believing in our mission.
Because we are not just reporting history—we are writing it.
We are the newspaper of the people.
Of the restaurant owner who works 16 hours a day to send her kids to college.
Of the student who translates headlines for their grandparents.
Of the activist who speaks truth to power—in Mandarin, in Cantonese, in English, and always, from the heart.
Southern News is the beating pulse of a proud, resilient, and rising community.
It is the voice of generations.
It is the memory of struggle.
It is the banner of unity.
And today, we celebrate not just our past—we celebrate our promise.
A promise to continue.
To grow louder, bolder, and stronger.
To stand on the front lines of justice, identity, and belonging.
This is more than a newspaper. This is a movement.
This is Southern News.
46 years strong. And we’re just getting started.
