T Team Supports Southern News Group Plaza in Building a Smart Digital City in Houston
HOUSTON — Southern News Group is moving forward with an ambitious plan to transform its plaza and surrounding area into a next-generation Smart Digital City. Recently, a professional team from AT&T visited Southern News Group Plaza for an on-site assessment and discussions on 5G connectivity, smart-city infrastructure, digital security, and future community services.
As artificial intelligence, 5G communications, and the Internet of Things continue to advance rapidly, urban development is moving beyond traditional buildings and infrastructure toward a more connected and intelligent environment.
Southern News Group plans to use its plaza and the Houston International District as a foundation for introducing high-speed communications, smart light poles, LED digital information systems, security monitoring, IoT technology, smart parking, and digital wayfinding systems. The goal is to create a Smart Digital City demonstration area that connects business, media, finance, education, health care, and community services.
The AT&T team’s visit represented more than a routine site tour. Team members reviewed the building, public spaces, and surrounding environment while discussing how AT&T’s communications technology and business solutions could help create a safer, more efficient, and more connected community.
Southern News Group Chairman Wea Lee said that the cities of the future will not be defined only by roads and buildings, but by how technology connects people, businesses, education, health care, media, and public services.
“Our vision is to build a true Smart Digital City for the future. By combining AT&T’s technology with Southern News Group’s long-standing relationship with Houston’s diverse communities, we can bring technology directly into the community, serve residents, and help local businesses grow.”
Looking ahead, Southern News Group and AT&T will continue exploring opportunities to apply 5G, artificial intelligence, and smart-city technologies to business development, public safety, workforce education, health services, and community activities.
The vision is not simply to display new technology, but to create a living digital community where residents can benefit from technology in their daily lives, businesses can become more competitive, and young people can gain the skills needed for the future.
From a media plaza to a Smart Digital City, Southern News Group is beginning a new chapter of development. The participation and support of the AT&T team bring important technological expertise to the project and new momentum to the digital transformation of Houston’s International District.
