We Are In A National Crisis Again

Tens of millions of confirmed cases of the coronavirus have been reported all over the world today. Twenty-five percent of the world’s cases are in the U.S. We now have more than 2.5 million cases and 125,000 deaths. Such terrible figures really prove that we lack the ability to fight this crisis.

Today, America is facing three major issues: the Coronavirus and public health, the economy and the radical problem. Whether we should even wear masks under the current pandemic conditions in the nation cannot be agreed on. And at the federal, local and state levels of government, because of different ideologies, there are no firm agreements on the many issues we are facing in the crisis. There is no leadership in command as a central power. Sadly, this is the situation with the coronavirus.

Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar has warned that our time was running out for the U.S. to curb the spread of coronavirus as cases rise cross the country, particularly in the west and south.

We were very sad to learn that our dear friend, the mayor of the City of Stafford, Leonard Scarcella, passed away last night. He was a very good friend of the Asian community. He also was the longest serving mayor in U.S. history for 49 years. His legacy will be remembered by us.

In this crisis time, we have also learned that Harris County Judge Linda Hidalgo has been confirmed with the coronavirus. We admire her leadership at this critical time and we wish her all the best.

As a nation, we are facing this unprecedented challenge. It is everybody’s responsibility to carry out your duties and to contribute however you can from your position as a citizen. Let’s all team up to rescue our country.

公衞再现危机

遭受新冠病毒肆虐的世界人口已突破一千万人次，仅是美国就佔四分之一的二百五十万人，死亡人数也达十二万五千人，这次的公共卫生危机充分顕示国家动员能力之不足，造成有史以来天灾加人祸的极大不幸。

目前我们所面临的是公卫、经济及种族之三大危机，使这个开放民主之社会在遭遇毒恶的病毒时束手无策，就连是否要戴口罩都无法口径一致，加上地方民主共和两党早已政见分歧，联邦政府更无法领衔指挥。

卫生部长艾萨刚刚提出警告，我们的时间已经不多，疫情已经在美国西南州猖狂蔓延，我们要求全国民眾要自爱，保持社交距离，戴上口罩，令人讽剌的是副总统潘斯昨天在参加德州一项教会集会上，近百人的唱诗班没有一个人戴口罩，白宫当局还宣称全国疫情已经持平。

我们惊闻德州休斯敦近郊的斯坦福市市长史格勒昨日逝世，现年七十九岁在美国歷史上任职最久的市长，在其四十九年任期内，把斯坦福市建设成為小而美之城，他对我们亚裔社区特别友善，好友谭秋晴女士也刚就任该市市议员，另外同时传来我们居住的赫里斯郡郡长赫达格疑似新冠病毒感染，目前正在家自我隔离中，这位精明能干的女郡长是来自哥伦比亚之移民，我们祝福她早日康復。

我们今天的挑战已经是每位国民共有的问题，任何人都已无法逃避，希望大家捲起袖子，在各自岗位上贡献力量，来挽救国家，挽救自己。
