Houston’s Convention District Is Open for Business Welcoming the world today while building for tomorrow
Houston is moving forward with a vision for its downtown convention district—a place where business, hospitality, entertainment, and international exchange come together.
The George R. Brown Convention Center remains open and operational as its campus undergoes a major transformation. The new GRB South building is scheduled to open in 2028, expanding Houston’s capacity to welcome conventions, exhibitions, and visitors from around the world. Houston First
The promotional designs show a welcoming district with spacious interiors, landscaped gathering areas, and places for people to meet and connect. They present a vision of a convention experience that extends beyond the exhibition floor into the surrounding city.
For our local business community, this investment represents opportunity. Convention visitors can bring customers to hotels, restaurants, shops, and cultural attractions. International gatherings can also create relationships that develop into trade, investment, and lasting partnerships.
We should help those visitors discover the full diversity of Houston, including the businesses, food, and cultures of our International District. The benefits of a stronger convention destination should reach communities throughout the city.
Houston’s greatest strength has always been its people—their ambition, hospitality, and willingness to build together. As our convention district grows, we have another opportunity to share that spirit with the world.
Houston is open for business—and ready to welcome the future.
