African Diplomats Are In Town
Today we attended the Houston African Day Business Forum sponsored by
the Mayor's Office of Trade and International Affairs (MOTIA).
Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner said in his welcoming message that we have annually recognized our city’s strong and vibrant African community by hosting the event and we are bringing together community leaders, international partners and elected city officials to create awareness of the many contributions that Houstonians of African descent have made to our city.
The City of Houston along with public and private partnerships have built the world’s largest state-of-the-art medical center, a leading international port and the NASA Johnson Space Center. The tie between Houston and Africa has fostered numerous successful commercial and cultural exchanges.
As newly appointed Honorable Consul of the Republic of Guinea in Houston, I had an opportunity to meet many ambassadors from Washington, including the African Union, Liberia, Burkina Faso, Angola, Madagascar, Libya, Cameroon, Mali, Niger, South Sudan and Togo.
Today the African continent is facing very big challenges as well as offering new opportunities. Many people want to go to Africa to invest in high-tech, agriculture, education and energy. All of the African countries are opening their arms to welcome all of us.
We are sponsoring another investment forum at the International Trade Center with the Guinean Ambassador Kerfalla Yansane tomorrow. We hope the forum will create new opportunities for American investors.
