向休斯敦市長致謝

特納市長八年任期即將在年底屈滿， 今晚我們近五十位國際社區人士舉辦了一場感恩募款餐會， 感謝他過去八年任期給予社區之支持， 並祝福他諸事順遂。 

在我主持國際區任內， 市政府斥資近五千八百萬元建造了艾利芙社區活動中心 ，這座非常新穎現代化七萬多呎之多功能建築， 座落在國際區之中心地帶， 更成為我們的地標和名片 。我們目前正在設計中之國際區大門 ，建成後將會相互輝映， 改變國際區之地貌。

記得七年前，他剛上任市長時， 我們也舉辦了歡迎會， 從此建立了深厚之兄弟情 。多年來 我們舉辦的重大活動包括春節遊園會他從不缺席。 

自新冠疫情蔓延之後， 市長對休斯敦地區之災情可謂極尽全力， 也因操勞過度， 因而生病住院， 但目前已經康復 。

特納市長是全美重要之非裔政治領袖， 是拜登總統重要之支持者， 尤其是全美第四大城之市長， 相信今後必然會被民主黨重用。

今晚參加餐會的五十多位國際社區領袖，包括銀行家 、地產開發商、 名建築師 、律師及社團領袖。

我們是群知道感恩的人， 市長即將離職，但他任內所做之大小事， 曾經影響了我們大部份之市民，  感恩是人之本性， 感恩也是一種美德。

Thank you Mayor Turner 

Mayor Turner’s eight-year term is about to expire at the end of the year. Tonight at our house nearly fifty international community leaders held a gratitude and fund-raising party for him to thank him for his service over the past eight years and to wish him all the best. 

The City of Houston built the Alief Neighborhood Center and Park and it was opened to the public a few months ago. This modern, more than 70,000 square feet building is located in the International District and it has become our landmark and our business card. We are also currently designing an International Gate in our district. After completion, it will be a reflection of each of us and will tell the story of the ever-changing face of the International District.

I remember seven years ago when Mayor Turner first became mayor we also held a welcome party for him. Since then we have established a deep brotherhood over the years, He has never been absent from our major events, including our annual Lunar New Year celebration. 

Tonight’s party included the most prominent business and community leaders in Houston including developers, bankers, lawyers, architects and civic leaders. We are a group of people who know how to be grateful. The mayor is about to leave, but the efforts he has made on the big and small issues during his tenure have benefited all of us. 

Gratitude is human nature. Gratitude is also a virtue.
