我們的激情和希望

德州休斯敦市長初選投票日開始了，居住在這個全美第四大城的市民們要投下神聖之一票，選出今年四年的領導人 。

上週六，我們再度邀到參選市長的德州參議員惠特邁作了一次非常懇切之見面會， 來自休斯敦社區之五十多位精英領袖人物， 包括主流、非裔、 拉丁裔、 華亞裔等社區 ，我們主要討論了治安、 基建、 市府改革、政府主管用人及未來經濟發展等重大問題。

惠特邁參議員首先承諾， 如果他有幸當選， 一定會在任用市府主管人員作重大調整， 並會將改善治安及街道修理列為最高優先項目。

今天的大休斯敦已經有了重大之改變， 華亞裔人口已超過百分之十， 而且還不斷增加之中 ，我們眼見許多新移民選擇了德州無論是物價、 房價都是最宜居之城市。

我們常有一股衝動的熱情來參加市長助選， 我們更深信這埸政治活動將給華亞裔社區帶來更多之希望， 我們大家熱愛這塊土地， 大家更要守望相助 ，勇於參政才能撑握自己之命運。

Our Passion And Hope

Early voting has already started in Houston, Texas. Citizens living in this, the fourth largest city in America, will cast their votes to elect a new leader for the next four years. 

Last Saturday, we again invited Senator Whitmire who is running to be Houston's next mayor to have a very earnest meeting with more than 59 elite leaders from the Houston community, including white, African, Latino, Chinese and other Asian groups. We mainly discussed public safety, infrastructure, government reform and economic development.

Senator Whitmire first promised that, if he was lucky enough to be elected, he will make major adjustment of department heads and appointments to look like the leaders of today. He will also put the public safety issue at the forefront of his priorities.

Today’s Greater Houston area has undergone major changes. The Asian population is over 10% now. We have seen many of them coming to Texas and especially to Houston which is the most livable city for housing and food prices. 

We often have a strong, impulsive enthusiasm to participate in the mayoral election. We are more convinced than ever that our political activity will bring more hope for our community and ultimately for our destiny.
