我们的激情和希望

德州休斯敦市长初选投票日开始了，居住在这个全美第四大城的市民们要投下神圣之一票，选出今年四年的领导人 。

上週六，我们再度邀到参选市长的德州参议员惠特迈作了一次非常恳切之见面会， 来自休斯敦社区之五十多位精英领袖人物， 包括主流、非裔、 拉丁裔、 华亚裔等社区 ，我们主要讨论了治安、 基建、 市府改革、政府主管用人及未来经济发展等重大问题。

惠特迈参议员首先承诺， 如果他有幸当选， 一定会在任用市府主管人员作重大调整， 并会将改善治安及街道修理列為最高优先项目。

今天的大休斯敦已经有了重大之改变， 华亚裔人口已超过百分之十， 而且还不断增加之中 ，我们眼见许多新移民选择了德州无论是物价、 房价都是最宜居之城市。

我们常有一股冲动的热情来参加市长助选， 我们更深信这埸政治活动将给华亚裔社区带来更多之希望， 我们大家热爱这块土地， 大家更要守望相助 ，勇於参政才能撑握自己之命运。

Our Passion And Hope

Early voting has already started in Houston, Texas. Citizens living in this, the fourth largest city in America, will cast their votes to elect a new leader for the next four years. 

Last Saturday, we again invited Senator Whitmire who is running to be Houston's next mayor to have a very earnest meeting with more than 59 elite leaders from the Houston community, including white, African, Latino, Chinese and other Asian groups. We mainly discussed public safety, infrastructure, government reform and economic development.

Senator Whitmire first promised that, if he was lucky enough to be elected, he will make major adjustment of department heads and appointments to look like the leaders of today. He will also put the public safety issue at the forefront of his priorities.

Today’s Greater Houston area has undergone major changes. The Asian population is over 10% now. We have seen many of them coming to Texas and especially to Houston which is the most livable city for housing and food prices. 

We often have a strong, impulsive enthusiasm to participate in the mayoral election. We are more convinced than ever that our political activity will bring more hope for our community and ultimately for our destiny.
