The People Of Taiwan Will Vote

For The President Of The Republic Of China Today

Today more than 12 million voters in Taiwan will go to vote and elect their next leader and president of the Republic of China. It has been reported that more than 300 international media outlets have already come to the island to prepare for the election results.

This historic election will affect the future relationship between China, the United States and Taiwan which impacts the political future of 23 million people.

From an international point of view, Taiwan is the 'chess piece' between China and the United States. As long as the United States continues to hold the status of #1power in the world, Taiwan will continue to survive with the help of United States. However, we should realize that we here in the U.S. also will hold a presidential election this year, so everything is very uncertain.

We hope that both sides of the Taiwan Strait will seek and find a peaceful solution in consideration of the best result for all of the people. The existence of the Republic of China in Taiwan has also been made possible due to many proud achievements over the past 70 years. Mainland China also has made great economic achievements in catching up with United States as well. These achievements represent the wisdom and hard work of all the people.

In any case, Taiwan’s general election is still under the constitutional system of the Republic of China. No matter who is elected as the leader, he will not, and will not dare to attempt, to amend the constitution and become an independent country.

We are here to urge the United States government and its leadership to make it very clear that only do we not support Taiwan independence, but at the same time, that we also strongly support the goal of unification of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. In fact, this outcome will be very much in line with the national interests of all because war and conflict will not solve the problem.
