The Impact Of The Presidential Election On The Chinese Asian Community

The results of the debate held before the November Presidential election last Thursday are continuing to ferment in our community. Two elderly presidential candidates, one 78-years-old and the other 81-years-old, expressed many different political views to the American people in front of national TV. The viewership of the debate was calculated to be 51million. The resulting overall impression was that the ability of the United States, a global superpower, to continue as the leader of the world is in decline.

Today, taxes on goods continue  to rise and with interest rates very high, the government continues to suppress imported goods causing the price of all supplies to rise and thus, creates great pressure on many ordinary people and their businesses.

Many politicians take advantage      of this to express their veiled fallacy  of discrimination for immigrants and ethnic minorities. Some states have already passed laws prohibiting foreigners from buying real estate and land, and even prohibit some foreign students from studying here.

Today, in the greater Houston area alone, Asians represent as high as 7% of the general population. In other words, we are already an active and key minority in the decision-making process of public elections.

We must call on all people in  our community to be united to protect our rights through active participation in the voting process.
