“Stone Lions Standing Guard at the Southern Global Financial Center”
Two marble lions, each weighing well over a thousand pounds, were lifted into place this morning by a massive crane and set at the very front of the Southern Global First Bank Financial Center. In that moment, the steel cables tightened like a drawn bow, and the early light settled into the carved lines of their backs—as if the stone itself were being awakened. They were no longer simply sculptures. They became a visible vow, a silent guardianship.
This marks more than the completion of a building. It marks the arrival of a journey: from vision to blueprint, from blueprint to steel and concrete, and from steel and concrete to this day—when lions now stand at the entrance and the spirit of the place finally takes its seat. The lions lift their heads not to show off, but to steady; not to threaten, but to protect. Like two quiet sentinels, they keep the storm outside and leave confidence within. For everyone who walks through those doors, they stand for safety, dignity, and the promise of what comes next.
I stood before them and realized this was not merely the act of “installing” two stone figures. It was the act of placing a principle here—courage, steadiness, responsibility, and trust. The crane lowered a heavy weight to the ground, but in my heart something heavier rose: expectation—for this center, for the team, for the community, and for the next generation.
May these two lions, from this day forward, stand guard day after day: guarding our original purpose, guarding our credibility, guarding the foundation we have built step by step on this land of the American South—and guarding, for every dream that enters, the hope that it will not be let down.
