We Are The Key Minority
Last Friday at the community meeting to support Senator Whitmire's run to be Houston’s next mayor, hundreds of citizens of all ethnicities gathered to express their hopes for the candidate.
I was very proud to speak on behalf of the Asian American group and told the audience how much we all have all contributed to this great land. I said in the meeting that we have four points of expectation for the future mayor. First of all, immediately rectify the public safety issue, create an economic and trade zone, hire more Asians in the city government and improve the quality of education.
According to the latest statistics for the greater Houston area, people with Asian heritage backgrounds represent over 10% of the city's population. Now we are becoming the key minority for electing candidates to many political positions.
In the rally, Senator Whitmire expressed his absolute confidence in rectifying the safety problem around the city. He suggested that the area's law enforcement agencies should all work together and improve the cooperation with each other.
I am very glad that we as Asians are speaking out loudly to express that our rights should be met.
