Kinder HSPVA Student Nicole Lee Hosts McDonald’s Education Workshop!
November 15, 2025, the 14th Annual McDonald’s Education Workshop was grandly held at the Alief ISD Talent Development Center!
Nicole Lee, an outstanding senior from Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, was invited to serve as the student host. She co-hosted the entire event with Nakia Cooper, Editor-in-Chief of Bayou Beat News.
The McDonald’s Education Workshop—formally known as the McDonald’s College Readiness & Admissions Fair—is an education event designed for students preparing to enter college. Sponsored by McDonald’s and co-organized by the International Trade Center, HEB, and Alief ISD, the workshop attracted nearly 300 students and parents.
Experts from multiple universities, over a dozen educational institutions, and various community organizations participated in the event. They provided guidance on college application strategies, scholarship information, mental health resources, and career development for Asian American, Latino, African American, and students of all backgrounds—making it a vivid example of promoting educational equity within Houston’s diverse communities.
The workshop began at 9 a.m., with ribbon-cutting guests including:
- Wea H. Lee, Chairman of Southern News Group and President of the International Trade Center
- Adekunle Kay Elegbede, Director of International Relations for the City of Houston
- Sanjay Bhatia, Program Director of McDonald’s APA Next
- Dr. Alva Baldwin, Director of Guidance & Counseling, Alief ISD
Several universities and training institutions hosted information booths, including Houston Christian University (HCU), Houston Community College (HCC), Rice University, University of Houston (Main & Downtown), Prairie View A&M University, Elite Educational Institute, and others. Several students even received on-site pre-admission offers and scholarship checks.
A major highlight of the event was its three signature panel discussions on admission trends, success skills, and mental health.
Panel 1, Ready, Set, College Admission, featured:
- Jay Ku (Director of Elite Prep Houston)
- Dr. Colleen Reilly (Vice President of Houston Community College Southwest)
- Charles Murphy (Executive Director of Admission at Rice University)
They answered questions directly from students and parents.
The McDonald’s Education Workshop is held annually during the early college application season. Each year, it provides high school seniors with scholarship strategies and opportunities, receiving widespread praise from the community and making an important contribution to the prosperity and diversity of Houston!

McDonald's Education Workshop是专为即将升入大学的青年学子打造的教育盛会,由麦当劳赞助,全称为“McDonald’s College Readiness & Admissions Fair”,活动由International Trade Center携手HEB、Alief ISD协办。吸引了近三百名学生与家长到场参加。
当天,来自多所大学、十数家教育机构与社区组织的专家悉数出席,为亚裔、拉美裔、非裔以及各族裔学生提供大学申请策略、奖学金信息、心理健康资源与职业发展指导,成为休斯敦多元社区推动教育公平的一次生动实践。

现场有多家大学和培训机构设有咨询摊位,包括:Houston Christian University(HCU)、Houston City College(HCC)、Rice University 、
University of Houston Main & Downtown、Prairie View A&M University、 Elite Educational Institute等,有多名学生现场拿到了预录通知书和奖学金支票。
麦当劳教育展的重磅内容是三场重磅专题论坛:录取趋势、成功技能与心理健康。其中,Panel 1:Ready, Set, College Admission邀请到了Jay Ku(Elite Prep Houston 分校负责人)、
Dr. Colleen Reilly(Houston City College Southwest 副校长)、
Charles Murphy(Rice University 招生执行主任),他们在现场回答了家长和学生的提问。
麦当劳教育展一年一次,每年都在大学早申季节举行,为高中senior学生提供多种奖学金的申请攻略和机会,获得了社区的一致称赞,为繁荣休斯顿的多元性做出了重要的贡献!
