November 27, 2025 – Thursday – Thanksgiving
Today is Thanksgiving. We were invited to our daughter’s home for a family gathering. The house was warm and lively, filled with relatives and friends, with laughter flowing from room to room. Our grandson and granddaughter were of course both there, adding even more joy to the holiday.
Our daughter Margaret (Yuanyu) has been gentle and sensible since childhood. She studied diligently all the way through school, graduated from Columbia University, and is now a respected physician. She is always courteous in her manners, devoted and considerate toward her parents, and humble and gracious to relatives and friends. She truly fills our hearts with pride.
Today we also brought a special gift for her: a calligraphy scroll of Zhu Xi’s poem “Occasional Composition (Ou Cheng)”, bearing the lines:
“Youth passes easily, while learning is hard to complete;
not even an inch of time should be taken lightly.”
This gift both recognizes her many years of hard work and academic achievement,
and, through the wisdom of the ancients, encourages her in the next chapter of life
to continue cherishing her time, keep learning and striving—
and to pass this spirit on to the next generation.
