The Introduction of National Chengchi University
Following the innovation and popularization of digital technology in recent years, new media have not only challenged the dominant role of traditional media, but also created a huge impact in all aspects of society. The interplay between new media and innovative technology has brought about discussions across a diverse spectrum of fields, ranging from information security, laws and regulations, interactions between social groups, consumer behavior, and state governance.
As a result of this development, the Master’s Program of Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) was established at National Chengchi University (NCCU) in 2021. It is the first international and interdisciplinary graduate program in Taiwan to train comprehensive communication skills in new media technology by incorporating faculty and resources from five of NCCU’s colleges: Communication, Informatics, Law, Liberal Arts, and Innovation.
Additionally, GCIT provides the best facilities and bilingual education, with courses in both English and Chinese. Through new media innovation and creative training from domestic and international experts in academia and industry, together with cooperation and mutual exchange with partner universities, our goal is to cultivate outstanding media talent with both local consciousness and a global vision, who can also incorporate knowledge from the fields of humanities, social sciences, and communication technology.
The future career of GCIT graduates includes, but is not limited to, the public sector, domestic and international enterprises, nonprofit organizations, international media, media management in the R & D divisions, and content production on social media platforms. We hope to equip our students with the practical and professional skills to take on the challenges of the rapid development of global new media by reporting, producing, and integrating content using the best communication technology to date.

The Master’s Program of Global Communication and Innovation Technology (GCIT) is the first international and interdisciplinary graduate program in Taiwan to train comprehensive communication skills in new media technology by incorporating faculty and resources from 5 of NCCU’s colleges: Communication, Informatics, Law, Liberal Arts, and Innovation. Through courses, workshops, and internships, we hope to prepare our students to become outstanding, high-level talents.
GCIT will cooperate with internationally renowned social media platforms and hi-tech companies to design a unique academic and technical "dual advisor system.” Each student will have both an academic and a professional advisor to help with their learning and career planning. As many as two thirds of the incoming GCIT students will be awarded a full scholarship or a tuition waiver.
All GCIT students will be provided a subsidy for their 6- month internships, including at least 2 months abroad. Students can gain first-hand experience from Taiwanese and international media and technological industries, nonprofit organizations, cultural institutions, and the public and private sectors.
GCIT requires completion of a minimum of 24 credits and a master’s thesis for graduation.
1. Credit Requirements
All GCIT students are required to take 24 credit hours in total, which include 2 required courses (6 credits), 15 credits of elective courses, and internships (domestic and international, 3 credits in total). Students can take no more than 6 credits outside GCIT, but they must first obtain approval from their academic advisors and the program. Courses from Chinese Language Center (CLC) do not count toward credit requirements. Students with a full scholarship or a tuition waiver are required to maintain the status of full-time students. GCIT offers bilingual courses, which means some courses will be taught in English, some in Mandarin Chinese, and some by using a hybrid of both languages.
2. Internships/Overseas Learning
All GCIT students are required to register for domestic or international internships, overseas exchange, or international service work for a total of 6 months, with at least 2 months abroad. In doing so, students can gain firsthand experience from Taiwanese and international media and technological industries, nonprofit organizations, cultural institutions, and the public and private sectors.
All GCIT students are required to submit a thesis and pass an oral examination for graduation. The thesis needs to be in a form of capstone project or case study to address how to cultivate or apply creativity in new media production to explore or resolve practical problems in society.
全创硕学位学程的学⽣需修习24学分，包括兩⾨必修课6学分、选修课15学分、实习3 学分（含国内与海外）。学⽣可修习不超6 学分的学程外选修课，但须先经学业导师与学程的同意，华语中⼼的语⽂课则不计在毕业学分之内。领全额或半额（免学费）奖学⾦的学⽣则需保持全职学⽣身份。
所有全创硕学位学程学⽣均需撰写硕⼠论⽂并通过⼝试。论⽂形式总整计画 （ capstone project ） 或个案研究 （ case study）为主，聚焦以新媒体的创作或应⽤，探究或解决实际的社会问题。
