美参议院领袖麦康奈辞职

歷史上任职最长的共和党领袖麦康奈咋日宣佈计划年底辞职。 他在参议院发表之声明中回顾他在一九八五年进入参议院后满懐敬畏之心，逐渐从后排走到前排，成為参院领袖之人生过程。 他说：“生活中最被低估之天赋之一，就是知道什麼时候该走向生活中下一个篇 章。” 

麦康奈表示他的辞职并非健康因素， 但他曾经两次在公开场合中恍神， 令人担忧他的健康状况 ，他在致词时语带哽咽， 语毕时两党议员都起立鼓掌致敬。

自20 20年起 ，麦康奈和前总统川普之关係不和， 因而导至其妻赵小兰也辞去部长职务。 他一直受到支持川普保守派的压力， 假如今年川普再度被共和党提名参选总统， 对麦康奈而言不如早些求去。 

对美国参议院今后由何人出任领袖， 将是政坛上重大之影响和改变。 一般认為， 过去二十年来 ，他是稳定参院运作之重要力量。

Mitch McConnell Will Step Down   

As Senate Republican Leader

Senator Republican leader Mitch McConnell announced that he        will step down from his role as Republican leader at the end of his term. He will give up his position following the November election.

The 82-year-old senator said that,      “Believe me, I know the politics    within my party at this particular time. I have many faults and misunderstanding politics is one 

one of them.”

He suffered a fall last year and experienced some medical episodes when he momentarily froze in front of the media. 

The senator also said that he believes more strongly than ever 

that America’s global leadership is essential to preserving that shining 'City on a Hill' that Ronald Reagan mentioned many times. 

President Biden said that, " I’ve trusted him and we have a great relationship. We fight like hell, but he has never ever misrepresented my views." 

The president choked up when he delivered his speech as all members of both parties stood up and applauded. 

It is generally believed that McConnell has been a very important force in the U.S. Senate over the past twenty years.
