Letter to Katie Gondo

Dear Katie:

Yesterday afternoon, I received your phone call, and then you told me that Glen had left us. There was a burning pain in my heart and  I was speechless.

Glen often mentioned that you and he

were childhood sweethearts when both of you grew up in a small town in northern California, and that you were classmates in elementary school, and that you have spent a good and happy time together on the road of life. What a touching love story for both of you for more than sixty years.

Last year, Glen and I went to Washington D.C. to participate in the diplomatic activities of the Guinean Embassy. After that morning, we had planned to fly back home to attend your Fifty Years Golden Wedding Anniversary party, but unfortunately, the flight was canceled due to bad weather, and there were more than one hundred guests that had been invited to attend the special party. We were also quite helpless at that time and your son Robert finally found an afternoon flight with Southwest Airlines and we rushed back to Houston. At that time,  Glen didn’t know that Robert was preparing the party for him. When he entered the room, everybody applauded and greeted him. Glen hugged you and we all had very big smiles.

For decades, you have been his most trusted and capable life and career partner. He often told me how you had been taking care of him meticulously. In his last moment, you always stayed with him until he left.

In his seventy-six years, Glenn‘s life was so full of vitality. He made great contributions to our community and his personality and charm was recognized by all the people he knew.

This morning. I kept looking through our photos at the International Trade Center,      for which he was one of the founders, and

I remembered all of the events and various activities we held there. Looking at his smiling face, my eyes burst into tears again.

Katie, you must be strong in sorrow of losing Glen, and we also want to celebrate his past happy life. He is now in another world and we wish him all the best.

Your good friend and brother,

Wea and Catherine Lee
