Sheila Jackson Lee Has Passed Away: Remembering An Exceptional Political Leader
President Biden was in Houston to pay his last tribute to the late Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee at Houston City Hall. I am with the Houston Consular Corp. and attended her memorial service on Monday morning. Her passing is a significant loss for the people of the Houston area as well as the entire nation. She dedicated her whole life to public service.
Sheila was an exceptional politician known for her sharp wit, her unwavering political stances, and deep compassion for the underprivileged. She was a shining emblem of the African American woman, making significant contributions to the civil rights movement and social justice.

My acquaintance with Shelia spans over 30 years, from her days as a city councilwoman to her role as a member of the U.S. Congress. Throughout her career, she maintained remarkable energy and unwavering conviction. She championed the cause of her constituents regardless of their race.
Over the last several decades she has supported various community activities hosted by our company and the International Trade Center. What moved me the most was at the 70th Anniversary of WWII held at Houston's Minute Maid Park several years ago. At the event where more than 30,000 people attended, she held my hand and said, ”Brother Lee, I am very proud of you.”
Dear Shelia, you are my sister, now you are in heaven, we need to celebrate your life.
