In Loving Memory of Mr. Yi-Shun Sun
I was deeply saddened to learn that Mr. Yi-Shun Sun, a respected entrepreneur who lived to the remarkable age of one hundred, has passed away. With heavy heart, I find myself recalling the days decades ago when he came to Houston’s Chinatown in Texas to begin his journey. The image of him bending over in a small grocery store, carefully arranging fresh vegetables and fruit, remains vivid in my mind—an enduring portrait of the hardship and perseverance that marked the immigrant years for so many Chinese families.
Mr. Sun’s life was a testament to diligence, humility, and unwavering resolve. Through honest work and steadfast character, he laid a strong foundation for his family and gradually built a meaningful legacy in Houston. Over the years, with the united efforts of his loved ones—especially his eldest son Vican Tan Sun and his devoted wife—the family expanded their vision and established the Viet-Hoa business enterprise, creating a proud and memorable chapter for the Chinese American community.
Though Mr. Sun has departed, his spirit and example remain. What he leaves behind is not only a successful business, but also the enduring values of the immigrant story: hard work, integrity, responsibility, and hope. May he rest in peace, and may his family find comfort and strength during this time of sorrow.
