Our Dear Friend Sheila Has Passed Away
U.S. House of Representatives member Sheila Jackson Lee walked through her wonderful life of 74 years accomplished with her family at her side last night. She wrote a glorious page in the modern history of the United States. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable life and an illustrious career in American history.
We first met Sheila during her time as a City Council member. Her powerful impromptu speeches laid the foundation for her 30-year political journey. From national issues to local concerns, her outspokenness became a crucial voice for underrepresented communities.
Over the past three decades, she graced all of our major community events with her inspiring speeches. These included our Annual Lunar New Year Festival, our ITC Gala and the 70th Anniversary of the End of World War II in downtown at Minute Maid Park ten years ago. Her voice resonated with strength and conviction.
Just six months ago she visited our newly constructed bank building at Southern News Group congratulating us on the project and promising to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Sadly, that promise will remain unfulfilled.
Shelia‘s dedication to our community, particularly the Asian American community, will be forever remembered.
